One of our favourite brands for SS17 is Hello Simone. We love collections that tell stories of far away places, adventure and dreams. We place great importance on raising a generation of children with an inclusive global spirit so embrace things to encourage that. Each season its founder, former fashion journalist, Tifenn Duchatelle takes us to a different country with a new collection. Hello Simone is an inspired label that by its very nature will increase a child’s curiosity and awareness of other cultures and new places. Exciting original prints and embroideries are unique to the brand. Natural fabrics and yarns that are soft and easy to wear are dyed to create a unique palette each season. Join us on the journey with Hello Simone. We interviewed Tifenn with our Q&A....

All we need is love!

Effortless chic, Parisian, poetic

Happy, very close and open to the world
4) Does your family have a favourite song?
Yes, it’s called « Boucle ne veut pas dormir », it’s a song written by a french singer for children which name is « Le roi des papas ». It’s about a little girl who refuses to go to bed…
5) What is your favourite season and why?
My favourite season is summer, especially August when we all go to Patmos, a greek Island in the Dodécanèse where our family have a house.
6) Whats your favourite time of day and why?
9.00am in the morning after dropping the children at school, the house is quiet and I can start thinking and working on the collection…
7) What's it like for a family living in Paris?
Very exciting and very inspiring for the children. And if you have the opportunity to escape to the countryside once in a month it’s wonderful!
8) How has Paris changed since your own childhood?
There are so many things to do now for kids, designed for kids exibitions, specific shows and activities that did not exist when I was a kid. Except for the public gardens and the métro, Paris is a very kid friendly town now.
9) What is the key for a happy childhood?
Love, of course, understanding and security. And we try our best to give our two children self confidence. It’s the key to have a happy life and to have the courage to experience things as an adult.
10) Describe your home?
Design, contemporary and messy ! With toys everywhere ;)
11) Where do you get inspiration from?
I get my inspiration from the travels I have done or dream of. The brand Hello Simone is about Simone, a little Parisian girl who travels all around the world. Each season is inspired by a place she has visited. The summer collection for example, is a tribute to Patmos island. The cats which are on the prints are the real cats who live in the garden of the house where we are staying. I can also find inspiration in a painting, or an an ancient piece of fabric… The prints of some dresses of the collection have been inspired by Mondrian.
12) What are your family traditions?
Before having kids, my husband and I used to travel far away twice a year. Now our kids are old enough (7 and almost 4) so we are going to start to travel again with them. We are really excited about that. I hope it will become our family tradition !
13) What is your favourite kids book?
We love « Max and the Maximonstres » of Maurice Sendak and the kids adore the books of Catharina Valckx, « Billy ».The heroes are a little hamster, Billy, and his best friend Jean-Claude, a tiny earthworm. It’s really funny, I think we have read these books more than a hundred times.
14) How would you describe your style and /or your parenting style?
Very french. A mix of coolness and authority. It’s very important for us that our children are well mannered and be kind with others.
15) Where is your favourite spot to holiday?
Patmos island in Greece.
16) What is your favourite family day out?
A sunny day to the beach, looking for shells, crabs and shrimps under the rocks.
17) What hopes do you have for the future for the children and future generations?
I hope my children could continue to grow up in an open world and caring environment. I hope people will understand one day that we can’t just exploit and destroy the environment without thinking of the future generations.
